Rob and Big reality series following a pro skateboarder and his bodyguard living together in the Hollywood Hills.

March 14th, 2008 · 3 Comments

A MTV series following a pro skateboarder Robert “Rob” Dyrdek.

I convinced MTV to let me blog from behind the scenes of Rob and Big Season three. Actually, it took no convincing at all. They were eager to have an inside source reporting for the show. Inspired by other TV producers who maintain production blogs, I thought it would be nice to have an official website for our show. Anyway, I know the blogging here is sparse while I’m working, but if you’re interested, you can read my show-related entries from the production office, from the road, and from the field of Rob and Big…

The Next Level Of Dirty Girl arrives after Rob finds hooker gloves on his dresser, Big sends out an online bulletin to find Rob a good girl.

When is the DVD coming out? (The tentative release date for the Season 1/Season 2 combo DVD is Nov. 5.)
Will there be a Season 3? (Yes!)
When will it air? (As of now, November.)
Is that house a real house or a set? (It’s Rob’s real house, which he owned long before this show began.)
Where can I get one of those kickass Gun Shirts/BB shirts/DC shirts/etc.?

The Rob and Big Show

Inspired by Rob and Big’s T.V. show, this site will be a place to find the latest news, pictures, behind-the-scenes clips and other “Rob and Big” content. I’ll do my best to post regularly and to respond to as many comments as I can, but it gets pretty crazy while we’re in production, so we’ll see how it goes. I’ll keep my camera with me throughout production, to try to give you a little peek into the inside world of “Rob and Big.”

For those of you who don’t know the storyline, it goes something like this. Skater-dude skates. Skater-dude gets hassled by cops and other skater haters. Skater-dude gets sick of getting hassled. Skater-dude hires body guard. Body guard is big. Body guard is good. Body guard and skater dude become instant buddies. Body guard and skater-dude make a hilarious and engaging odd couple of the 21st Century.

Robert Dyrdek was born in Kettering, Ohio and began skateboarding at the age of 11, winning his first competition 24 days later. The same year, Dyrdek became the youngest member of the G&S skateboard team. He turned professional at the age of 16, joining the Ohio-based Alien Workshop team, forgoing his senior year of high school. He reached fourth place at the 1991 World Championships, the first contest he competed in as a professional.

As a teenager, Dyrdek attracted a growing number of sponsors, appeared in skate movies and on magazine covers, signature skateboards and other merchandise. One of his best known sponsorship deals developed after he befriended the founders of the Droors Clothing line. He not only began promoting their clothing, but was given the opportunity to design a signature line of the first athletic skate shoe. The nearly 30 shoes designed by Dyrdek helped establish what became DC Shoes. This exposure to the business side of skateboarding inspired him to venture into other projects. Such the world-famous skateboarding training facility in San Diego, and the now defunct hip hop label, P-Jays Records.
